The brief
For my final-year college project, I wanted to bring my digital media skills together in an independent project exploring a different way to experience historical sites.
My approach
I used Trim Castle to test a past-and-present AR experience, comparing its appearance today with a reconstruction of how it may have looked in the past. Site visits, photography and historical research informed the models and the information presented in the app.
What I worked on
I managed the project within academic deadlines, from research and brand development through 3D modelling and a working Unity prototype. I tested the app, worked through technical issues and created promotional material to demonstrate the experience.
The outcome
The result was a detailed, working prototype. People who tried it responded enthusiastically, and some encouraged me to develop the idea further as a business. The project received TU Dublin’s Best Final Year Project award. I also won the SURE Network Award for Best Oral Presentation at SURE 2023.

Looking back
This brought research, design, development and promotion together in one independently managed project. The response gave me confidence in the concept’s potential for further development.
